The country of France is centrally located in the continent of Europe, with Spain along its western border and Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland and Italy running from the north to south along its eastern border. To the north of France is the Atlantic Ocean, the North Sea, and a body of water called the English Channel, through which an underwater tunnel allows trains to run from Calais in northern France to Folkestone, Kent in the United Kingdom.

Unit 1 – Transportation
The country of Italy is actually a peninsula, easily identified by its boot-like shape jutting out from the heart of Europe. It extends from the Alpine mountains of Switzerland and Austria in the north into the Mediterranean Sea, and includes the large islands of Sardinia and Sicily, which bring it almost to the tip of Africa.

About Kathryn Occhipinti
Learn Italian as I did, with my Conversational Italian for Travelers series of books! I was born into a family that loves to travel and I have spent many happy hours exploring Italy and getting to know my Italian “relatives” and their language and culture.
Most importantly, my books are friendly and combine travel tips and humorous anecdotes that truly make learning the Italian language come alive!
The Conversational Italian for Travelers textbook begins each chapter with a dialogue from a story about the character Caterina, an American girl who travels to Italy to visit her relatives. As the story continues from one chapter to the next, we learn Italian, and about Italy, in an engaging way through Caterina’s experiences. One-Pot Italian Chicken Cacciatore
The recipe title, “One-Pot Italian Chicken Cacciatore,” refers to a type of meat stew made in Italy, presumably when a hunter would bring home a fresh catch. Or possibly, the hunter himself would make this stew with the one pot he had on hand while out in the forest. Exactly where the title comes from is no longer known, and many delicious variations of chicken stew are called “alla cacciatore”—meaning “as a hunter would make”—in Italy today.Click here for the Italian recipe.
